French cartoonist Sine on trial on charges of anti-Semitism over Sarkozy jibe

A Left-wing cartoonist is to go on trial on Tuesday on charges of anti-Semitism for suggesting Jean Sarkozy, the son of the French president, was converting to Judaism for financial reasons.

Maurice Sinet, 80, who works under the pen name Sine, faces charges of “inciting racial hatred” for a column he wrote last July in the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo. The piece sparked a summer slanging match among the Parisian intelligentsia and ended in his dismissal from the magazine.

“L’affaire Sine” followed the engagement of Mr Sarkozy, 22, to Jessica Sebaoun-Darty, the Jewish heiress of an electronic goods chain. Commenting on an unfounded rumour that the president’s son planned to convert to Judaism, Sine quipped: “He’ll go a long way in life, that little lad.”

A high-profile political commentator slammed the column as linking prejudice about Jews and social success. Charlie Hebdo’s editor, Philippe Val, asked Sinet to apologise but he refused, exclaiming: “I’d rather cut my balls off.”

Mr Val’s decision to fire Sine was backed by a group of eminent intellectuals, including the philosopher Bernard-Henry Lévy, but parts of the libertarian Left defended him, citing the right to free speech.

Last week, the anti-capitalist, anti-clerical Sine, who recently founded his own weekly magazine, Sine Hebdo, took Claude Askolovitch, the journalist who first accused him of anti-Semitism, to court for slander in a separate case.

“When I heard that I was being treated as anti-Semitic, my blood ran cold,” he said during the trial, adding that if Mr Askolovitch had turned up in person, “it is not a trial he would have had but a head butt.”

Sine is the defendant in Tuesday’s court case in Lyon, southern France. The plaintiff is the anti-racism and anti-Semitism group, Licra.

The issue of anti-Semitism, already sensitive in a country still marked by the Alfred Dreyfus affair – the Jewish army captain wrongly accused of spying in the 19th century – has become even more charged in recent weeks due to Israel’s Gaza offensive; France was hit by a series of anti-Semitic acts, including firebomb attacks on synagogues.

The young Mr Sarkozy, who is now the leader of his father’s party in the president’s old fiefdom, the chic Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, has since married. He has denied converting to Judaism.

Muhammed s.a.w Some of his General supplication

Zayb b. Arqam r.a said: that the messenger of Allah s.a.w used to say: ‘O Allah, I seek refuge with you from incapacity, and sloth, and cowardice, and meanness, and decrepitude, and the torment of the grave.

‘O Allah, give my soul it’s piety, and purify it, for you are the best one to purify it; You are its Protector, and its Master. O Allah, I seek refuge with you from knowledge that brings no benefit, and a heart without humility, and an insatiable soul, and an unanswered prayers. (267)

Allamah Tibi said:

Every one of these items (268) is an indication that things should be judge by their ultimate ends and intention: Knowledge should be sought in order to benefit from it: if it brings no benefit it is useless, and a source of evil (for he who possesses it). And the heart was created to be humble before its Lord; if it is not humble, it is hard, and refuge should be sought from it: “woe, them, unto those whose hearts are hardened.” (269) And the soul only has value if it shrinks from the abode of delusion and turns to the abode of eternal life; if it is gluttonous and insatiable, it is the most pernicious of man’s foes, and it is therefore of utmost importance to seek refuge from such a soul. And a prayer’s not being answered is a sign that the one who makes it has not benefitted from his knowledge, and that his heart is not humble, and that his soul in insatiable.

267: Narrated by Muslim, Ahmad, and the authors of the Sunan collections. (sharh al-Mawahib)

268:That is, those mentioned in the Prophets s.a.w statement “I seek refuge with you from Knowledge that brings no benefit, and a heart without humility, and an insatiable soul, and an unanswered prayer”.

269: Qur’an 39:22

Letter to all Christians from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

How should Muslims treat Christians?  With violence? Anger? Hatred?  The answer is none of the above.  Below is the English rendering of a letter written by the Prophet Muhammad(sa) to all Christians.

In a time when tensions between Islam and Christianity seem to be at an all time high, we remind our Christian friends that a true Muslim cannot hurt a Christian in any way, neither by his hand, nor by his tongue.

The below letter requires no explanation.  We hope it provides credence and comfort that Prophet Muhammad (sa) truly celebrated his Christian friends. (The original letter is now in the Topkapi Museum in Instanbul)

“This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, near and far, we are with them. Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them.

No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be removed from their jobs nor their monks from their monasteries.

No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate.

No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray.

Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day (end of the world).”

Teenager loses virginity to her estranged DAD and now plans to marry him

The 18-year-old was reunited with her absent father after more than a decade apart, and says the couple plan on having children together

Taboo: The father and daughter plan on getting married and having a family of their own

A teenager has told how she became engaged to her FATHER after the two were reunited following more than a decade apart.

The American woman was estranged from her dad growing up, but the two got back in touch when she was 17.

After chatting online for a few weeks the two met – and felt an instant attraction.

Speaking to New York Magazine‘s Science of Us the anonymous woman, now 18, said: “It was so weird and confusing. I was seeing my dad for the first time in forever but it was also like, He’s so good-looking!

“I saw him as my dad but then also part of me was like, I’m meeting this guy who I have been talking to over the internet and really connecting with and I find him attractive.”

She went to stay with him for a week and after just five days the pair discussed their attraction to one another, before losing her virginity to him.

They are now a couple, have become engaged, and even plan on having children together.

Some of their family members are aware of their relationship – and treat them “just like any other couple” – but her mum is still in the dark.

But the daughter says she will tell her mother once she and her dad have moved to New Jersey where consensual, incestuous relationships where both parties are over 18 are not punished.

She hopes her mother will still want to come and visit her grandchildren.

Asked if she was worried about the potential genetic problems that could face their children, she replied: “I wouldn’t risk having a kid if I thought it would be harmful. I’ve done my research.”

“Incest has been around as long as humans have. Everybody just needs to deal with it as long as nobody is getting hurt or getting pressured or forced.”

But asked if she would tell their children that their dad was both their father and grandfather, she was less sure.

“We’ve decided that most likely we won’t, she said. “I don’t want to give them any problems.”
